Fire trucks, police cars and ambulances too!
Here come the vehicles to rescue you.
I am a volunteer firefighter and I wrote Emergency Emergency to help children and grown ups talk about how to stay safe in an emergency.
When I was writing the book, I had lots of fun learning interesting facts about emergency vehicles. Did you know the world’s first police car radio was invented in Australia? It was so big it took up the entire back seat of the police car.
I want every child in Australia to be read this book because if they ever need to call for help in an emergency I want them to know Triple Zero is the number to call. Then they can be a Triple Zero Hero and call for help!
In an emergency who do you call?
Zero Zero Zero – police, fire, ambulance!
The number for them all!

Ten Little Figs are on my tree, I love figs and they’re all for me!
But the animals in this garden all love figs too.
Can you spot who is hiding and who is coming and who might help?
Do you think any little figs will be left for me and you?
Hello, hello,
You might be curious to know how all this came about. Well, it started with a fig tree, which was only little – about as tall as you – well, maybe a little taller, but not by much. One day there it was, nestled on a branch, the most perfect, tiny, little fig. It was shaded from the sun and hidden from the birds by a giant, green hat of leaves. One little fig was on the tree. And it was the very first little fig that the little fig tree had ever grown.
Every day I made sure the tree had plenty to drink. And the little fig it grew and it grew – plumper and plumper and juicier and juicier. Until one day there was another fig. And then – another, and then, one more. They all grew and grew until there were ten little figs on my little tree. Ten little figs and they were all for me.
But I was not the only one watching them. All the animals in my garden loved figs too. And one by one the juicy, plump, little figs disappeared. That summer my little fig tree learned how to fruit. And I shared the figs with all kinds of different animals in my garden and some who came to visit.
Luckily there was one little fig that was left for me. And, best of all, I also got a story. Then Walker Books decided they quite liked figs too and Nathaniel Eckstrom drew some very beautiful illustrations and my little fig tree – my very clever, little fig tree – had grown its first little fig, that grew into a story that grew into a book called Ten Little Figs.
I do hope you like it!
Wishing you lots of figtacular adventures of your own – in your own backyard and beyond!
